The Tour-X5 is a completely redesigned helmet, packed with many features. As with everything from Arai, every improvement is made with a priority for protection, bringing us ever closer to the ideal Arai shape for protection

The visor system and visor are one of the key changes on the Tour-X5. The VAS-A visor system, derived from the VAS-V system developed for the RX-7V, has been designed to maximise Glancing-Off performance, meaning more surface area to 'glance off' impact energy whilst offering easy installation and removal of the visor and peak. The visor itself has been designed for increased visibility and Glancing-Off performance, and as it’s a Max Vision visor, a Pinlock insert can easily be installed. The VAS-A visor system also makes it easier to switch to other styles, without tools. Choose between Adventure, Off-road and On-road wherever you go.

The Tour-X5 has a completely redesigned ventilation system, being the second Arai model to feature the 3D logo duct. Complemented by the AR Spoiler and the latest iteration of the Delta Duct - the Delta Duct 6 - the Tour-X5 also features a revised chin vent.

The ventilation system of the Tour-X5 provides ample air flow to keep you cool no matter what. Additionally, the inner vent gate can flow air to the mouth or visor for increased defogging. As with any Arai model, ventilation parts like the 3D Logo Duct, AR Spoiler and Delta Duct 6 are designed to break off during an impact for maximum Glancing Off performance.

On the inside, the interior is fully removable, with an adjustable pad at the rear of the crown pad. A redesigned nose deflector will make the use of goggles easy. FCS cheek pads will give a firm fit both on- and off-road.

General

Outher Shell: PB-CLC2

Arai’s Peripherally Belted Complex Laminate Construction greatly increases shell strength and flexibility while maintaining low weight and a lower centre of gravity. Positioned across the top of the eye port, this band contributes to the use of a thinner EPS liner which greatly enhances the upward field of view. A specially designed “mechanically expanded fibre mat”, sandwiched between the inner and outer layers of Arai’s proprietary Super Fibre Laminates, is used to reinforce and bond these two Super Fibre layers without adding significant weight to the helmet. The latest “Z-Mixture” resins increases material adhesion requiring less resin for a stronger bond between materials for a thinner and lighter shell.

Variable Axis System (VAS-A)

This new visor system allows for easier and faster visor swaps. The visor can be attached or removed without the need for any tools. The peak utilizes only one screw on each side for easy removal & installation. With VAS, the visor mounting position is lowered, yielding an average of an additional 10mm of smoother shell across both temple areas, in pursuit of the ideal smoother shape that increases the ability to glance off impact energy. The visor is designed to follow the line of the eye-opening area on the shell while keeping a continuous curvature. A larger, clearer field-of-view is the result. The visor radius follows the shape of the helmet, providing a higher level of glancing off ability.

The all-new peak is designed for more effective ventilation, increased high speed flow-through performance, greater range of adjustability for blocking the sun, and is more resistant to buffeting, all of which leads to a more comfortable riding experience

Ventilation

Tour-X5 Ventilation

The Tour-X5 has a completely new ventilation system. With a total of three intake vents and five exhaust vents, the ventilation is further improved from the previous generation. Stay cool in any situation.

Front ventilation

3D Arai logo duct

Immediately noticeable, the new 3D Arai logo duct (made as thin as possible, just 3.5mm in depth) feeds two central 10mm intake ports underneath. This is a first in an Arai, and entirely due to the PB-CLC² shell’s strength and construction. It also works very well at low speed and with an upright riding position. At just 50km/h it’s channelling an extra 40% airflow, at 120km/h 7% compared to without. It can also be opened, or closed, easily with summer or winter gloves via a short-stroke lever placed at the top. If the rider can’t see the lever and the logo is in its normal place, the duct is open. The Arai logo duct is designed to breakaway in the event of an impact for enhanced glancing off ability.

Inner chin (bar) vent shutter

Working in conjunction with the mouth shutter, the inner shutter allows you to adjust the amount of airflow entering the helmet. If the inner and outer shutters are both open, the air will be directed towards your mouth. If the outer shutter is open and the inner closed, the air will be directed towards the visor and help to reduce fogging.

Three position chin vent

Three-position chin vent helps in demisting the visor and offering fresh, cool air to the rider.

Center Top Vent - Intake

Keeping the height low while improving airflow. In the event of an impact, this center vent will break away so as not to inhibit glancing off performance. The duct has made big advancements while staying true to what makes the helmet an Arai. The Top Vent has three positions: closed, half open and fully open to adjust the airflow and prevent water intrusion when fully closed.

Rear ventilation

Neck exhaust vent

To enhance hot-air extraction from the interior. Increases the ventilation effect at the lower part of the helmet.

Rear Duct

The air-through top-rear-duct center brace also functions as a goggle-strap locator. The diffusers can be removed or replaced quickly and easily by removing a single screw on the rear-duct center brace.

Side exhausts

Producing low pressure behind the rear vent for better hot air extraction, these side exhaust ports are integrated in the shell for better aerodynamics, wind noise reduction, and prevention of buffeting at speed. On the inside, a small noise reducing foam helps to absorb and diminish excessive noise, without reducing ventilation performance.

One-piece rear exhaust with spoiler function

The one-piece rear exhaust/spoiler, operated by a 3-way switch, is inspired by the DF-X2 of the RX-7V Racing, but redesigned for touring use – however, it was tested up to 300km/h at Suzuka. It sits a little more forward on the shell and is fed by 3 ports in the shell. As part of the Quantic’s comprehensive ventilation system it efficiently draws air but also smooths airflow over (and from the side) of the helmet, improving stability and reducing buffeting, especially while overtaking at highway speeds. The result is much less rider fatigue. Manufactured as thin and light as possible it’s designed to crush or break away upon impact, therefore having no impact on protective performance.

Aerodynamics

Retractable Pull-down Chin Spoiler

The retractable pull-down spoiler reduces wind intrusion into the bottom of the helmet and helps to pull out hot and humid air around the sculpted leading edges of the cheek pads. This coordinated ventilation, combined with fresh air coming in from the chin vent, also helps to reduce visor fogging and wind noise.

VAS-A Max Vision Shield

The new VAS-A Max Vision Shield preserves the wide field-of-view and high level of visibility expected of an Tour-X5 model. The Pinlock insert for this model has advanced to be effective at resisting fogging, even in extreme conditions, across the entire field of view.

Pinlock insert lens included

Effectively prevents misting and fogging of the visor, even under extreme wet and damp conditions. May be cleaned and changed easily.

Interior

Antimicrobial Liner material

Helps maintain neutral acidity levels close to human skin and antibacterial consumption. With the aim of a softer, deeper and even more comfortable fit we developed a softer liner frame material. The liner also has adjustable temple padding that allows for a customized fit.

Replaceable Cheek pads/Ear cups

Cheek pads/ear cups may be easily removed. All parts (replaceable or not) can be cleaned with lukewarm water and mild soap. Rinse well after cleaning, blot dry with a towel and let air dry completely before reassembly. Never machine wash or use heat to dry. Interior parts in different size thickness are available for a custom fit for every rider.

Replaceable Interior

Facial Contour System (FCS)

To offer an even better snug fit and enhancing the comfort to the lower jaw, the Facial Contour System (FCS) works with a foam spring support in the cheek pad that compresses and rebounds, providing the necessary support without excessive pressure.

5mm ’’Peel Away’’ Ear cups/Cheek pads

Giving even more ability to craft the perfect fit and comfort, the cheek pads feature a 5 mm peel away layer for added room if needed.

Speaker pockets

Build in communication systems are popular, but the problem is often that the room for a speaker is limited or just not present, causing unpleasant pressure points. The speaker pockets, offering room for mounting speakers without effecting comfort or fit. (Speaker not included).

Arai´s peel-away temple crown pads give the option of 5 mm more interior width if needed.

Comfort

Neckroll wire pocket

Designed to work clearly without affecting comfort or protection to store excess cable length in the neck roll.

Emergency Release System (ERS)

Allows easier access to an injured rider. By pulling the orange tabs integrated in the pads, the cheek pads slide out. Making helmet removal easier for trained medical personnel and rescuers. Minimising the risk of additional injury.

Intercom accommodation

Designed to fit and connect a communication system easily on the shell exterior – and without any compromise to the protection offered by the inner EPS liner.

10 mm wider base

The exclusive shell flares 5mm on each side for a total of 10mm around the base, making it easier to get the helmet on and off.

Arai Features

5-year limited warranty

All Arai helmets are warranted against defects in materials and workmanship, and are serviceable only for the properly fitted first user for 5 years from date of first use, but no more than 7 years from date of manufacture.

All-day comfort with the Arai interior fit and shape together with the finest liner materials and the extensive ventilation system. And thanks to the perfect balance and weight distribution of the helmet, you hardly notice you are wearing an Arai.

Arai In-house Criteria

Arai helmets are designed to meet the stringent Arai In-house criteria, in addition to the mandatory ECE standard.

Different outer shells

Unlike many other manufacturers Arai provides one size outer shell for each two-helmet sizes for most models. Together with different shaped outer shells for different models it is almost impossible not to find the fit you are looking for.

Double-D ring device

The flat and D-shaped rings fit smooth against the chin. No moving parts, no corrosion problems and just pulling the tab is enough to loosen the fastener.

Five times inspected

Each Arai helmet goes through five separate quality-control depart­ments: after the shell is made, after painting and graphic completion, after assembly and two in-process inspections.

Glancing Off

To minimize impact energy getting into the helmet, it’s crucial that a helmet can slide over a surface. Arai believes that a Strong, Round & Smooth shell helps to increase a helmets ability to protect the rider during an impact. Shells with sharp edges or vent ducts that don’t break off can reduce the helmet’s ability to slide, sending energy into the helmet, or even enhance rotational energy.

Handmade

It can take up to five years for our experts to earn the right to create an Arai shell. Each shell can take up to 27 steps and to build one Arai helmet will take about 18 man-hours.

Organic shape

The organic shape of an Arai outer shell offers a more natural appearance, seals better and conforms more to the head’s natural shape for improved comfort, fit and to help minimize wind turbulence.

Penetration tested

All Arai helmets are penetration tested, although not required by European helmet standards. The Arai penetration test is performed with a 3kg test cone that strikes from a height of 3m on the helmet.

Smooth shape, better protection

The smooth outer shell of Arai helmets is designed to glide without unnecessary resistance. You don’t want to decelerate your helmet more than necessary. That’s why all Arai vents and ducts are designed to break off during an impact.

Strong outer shell, soft inner shell

Arai uses a very strong outer shell to spread impact forces and a soft inner shell to absorb remaining energy. The multiple-density EPS inner shell is made using a unique technology of combining three to five densities in various areas as a single component.

Washable interior

The premium quality interior of any Arai helmet can be easily cleaned, in place, with mild soap and lukewarm water.

Approval

ECE R22-06

ECE R22-06 requires a much more stringent testing process than the previous ECE R22-05 and includes an oblique test to measure rotation.
